The Historical Museum of South Padre Island is asking the community to dig into photo albums, old film reels, and forgotten boxes of memories to help preserve the Island’s past.
The nonprofit museum is seeking photographs, film, and video clips from the 1950s through the 1980s, with a special interest in vintage spring break moments, early beach scenes, and everyday life on South Padre Island during its formative years.
“These images help tell the story of how South Padre Island grew into the place we know today,” said museum representatives. “Personal photos and home videos capture details that don’t always appear in official records.”
The museum is particularly interested in spring break era photos and footage, including crowds on the beach, hotels and businesses under construction, classic cars, and candid snapshots of visitors and locals enjoying the Island. Old beach photos from family vacations, fishing trips, or community events are also welcome.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Historical Museum of South Padre Island relies on community support and contributions to preserve and share local history. Submitted materials may be used for exhibits, educational programs, and archival preservation.
Digital files may be emailed directly to denise@spimuseum.com. Those with physical photographs or film can contact the museum to discuss scanning or donation options by calling or texting (956) 299 5537.
Materials may also be mailed to
