Alejandra Aldrete has announced she is seeking re-election to the Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees, Place 2, citing her experience in education and continued focus on student access and success.
First elected in 2020 and later selected as board secretary, Aldrete said her goal is to build on recent progress while keeping higher education accessible for local families.
A Brownsville native, Aldrete earned her degree through the former University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College partnership before completing a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University. She has described her role on the board as a “full-circle” opportunity to serve the same institution that helped shape her career.
Aldrete brings nearly two decades of experience in education, beginning as a classroom teacher and later moving into administrative and district-level roles. She currently serves as director of parent and family engagement and migrant education at Brownsville ISD, where she works closely with students and families, particularly in underserved communities.
During her tenure on the TSC board, Aldrete has supported initiatives aimed at affordability and access, including reduced tuition and fees, expanded dual enrollment programs, and efforts tied to improving student outcomes. The college has also maintained a stable property tax rate during that time.
In addition to her work in education, Aldrete operates a local business and remains active in the community, including serving on the board of United Way of Southern Cameron County.
Looking ahead, Aldrete said her priorities include expanding access to education, strengthening workforce training, and continuing to support student success.
“This work is about creating opportunities for students and families,” Aldrete said.
