On Tuesday, April 8-9 the Port Isabel ECHS track teams traveled to La Feria to compete in the District Track Meet.
The following are the results for the boy’s division.
In the 100 Meter Dash, Angel Dominguez came in 8th place with a time of 12.11 seconds. Meanwhile, in the Prelims, Eli Garza (10th, 12.83s).
200 Meter Dash Prelims results, Garza (8th, 25.83s) and Joseph Martinez (10th, 26.92s).
400 Meter Dash results, Aidan Ramos (2nd, 51.98s), and Jesus Ramos (8th, 55.58s).
1600 Meter Run results, Jorge Garcia (4th, 4:40.73 minutes). Garcia also came in 5th place in the 3200 Meter Run with a time of 10:25.89.
300 Meter Hurdles results, Christian Garcia (4th, 47.06s).
In the 4×100 Meter Relays, the PI team came in 2nd place with a time of 45.89 seconds. Then in the 4×200 Meter Relays, the team came in 3rd place with a time of 1:36.68 minutes. In the 4×400 Meter Relays the team came in 2nd with a time of 3:33.67m.
Long Jump results, A. Ramos (2nd, 20’-2.50”), and Tristan Green (3rd, 19’-11.75”). A. Ramos also came in 3rd place in the High Jump with a height of 5’-4”.
Triple Jump results, J. Ramos (7th, 36”-11.25”).
Discus results, Jahi Vasquez (1st, 130’-4”), and Alvaro Rocha (10th, 105’-2”). Vasquez picked up his second gold medal by winning the Shot Put event with a throw of 45’-1”.
In the girls’ division, Elle Wall won silver in the 100 Meter Finals with a time of 13.25 seconds, while Angley Diaz came in 4th place with a time of 13.85s.
200 Meter Dash results, Wall (1st, 26.44s), and Lizbeth Perez (2nd, 26.88s).
400 Meter Dash results, Perez (1st, 1:02.96 minutes), Julieta Ruiz (5th, 1:06.21m), and Nicole Sanchez (8th, 1:07.24m).
800 Meter Run results, Layla Mata (1st, 2:24.61m), and Sanchez (3rd, 2:29.17m).
1600 Meter Run results, Mia Lopez (5th, 6:09.12m), and Isabella Betancourt (7th, 6:30.08m). Lopez then came in 7th in the 3200 Meter Run with a time of 14:26.79m.
100 Meter Hurdles results, Mata (1st, 17.03s), and Itzel Vela (4th, 18.37s). In the 300 Meter Hurdles, PI dominated the podium as Mata won her third gold with a time of 46.84s, Madilynn Zamaron (2nd, 51.50s), and Sahara Gonzalez (3rd, 51.52s).
In the 4×100 Relays, PI won bronze with a time of 53.29s. In the 4×200 Relays the PI team came in 4th with a time of 1:56.86m. In the 4×400 Meter Relays the PI team secured 1st place with a time of 4:17.57m.
High Jump results, Wall (1st, 5’-0”), Mata (4th, 4’-6”), and Perez (7th, 4’-4”).
The PI team swept the Long Jump event as Wall won gold with a distance of 16’-7.50”, Mata (2nd, 16’-5.5”), and Perez (3rd, 15’-11.75”).
Triple Jump results, Isabel Ochoa (2nd, 32’-5.5”), Vela (5th, 31’-10”), and Diaz (8th, 29’-11”).
Pole Vault results, Jackie Nava (3rd, 7’-6”), and Betancourt (6th, 6’-6”).
Discus results, Escarlet Urrutia won gold with a throw of 99’-1”, and Sandra Martinez (8th, 71’-2”).
Shot Put results, Urrutia (1st, 35’-7”), Precious Vasquez (5th, 29’-7.75”), and Martinez (11th, 25’-7”).
On a side note, the PIECHS girls 4×100 relay team competed at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays held in Austin, Tx held this past April 1-4. Competing against the best in the state of Texas, the team of Lizbeth Perez, Layla Mata, Angely Diaz, and Elle Wall came in 38th of out of 61 teams with a time of 50.77 seconds, setting a new school record.
The PIECHS track teams will next compete at the Area Meet this week then at the Regional Meet starting on May 1 at Texas A&M University in Kingsville, TX.
