An action-packed weekend of fun, to benefit our local Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Madre, is scheduled for May 5-6 on South Padre Island and the SPI Golf Club in Laguna Vista.
The Third Annual “Boots ‘n Bling” Gala is scheduled for Friday, May 4 at the Pearl South Padre, and as Bettina Tolin, Chief Volunteer Officer for BGCLM, said, “This year’s theme is “Keepin’ It Cool After School” and it’s time to replace the air conditioners, and we want to make sure that we do not have a situation where the kids are so hot… that we can’t serve our children.”
In addition to new cooling systems for the center, Tolin is passionate about the youth development programs this gala will help fund. “Over 800 boys and girls, ages 6-17 participate through daily after-school and summer programs,” said Tolin. ”An increase of 100 percent over the last couple of years – we have doubled in daily attendance.”
