Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville has numerous events planned for the month of January.
Beginning the first week of the month of January and continuing through March, the zoo will be offering walking tours of the zoo grounds for Winter Texan visitors. The tours will be provided by the Zoo Descents Council at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday through Friday.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, the zoo will be giving children the chance to experience the daily routine of a zoo keeper and how they take care of the animals.
Parents are invited to participate as well.
The class will include a zoo tour, snack, materials and supplies. Registration is $15 per child, or adult, ages four and up. Zoo members receive a $5 discount.

At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, January 13, the zoo will host “Animal Play Day” at Gorilla Island, in which the zookeepers introduce enrichment items to the animals.
Animal enrichment provides novel food and play items to help stimulate and entertain the zoo inhabitants.
It is performed on a daily basis and is a vital component to the health and well being of the animals.
The event is free of charge with regular paid admission.
