Meet the Author at Paragraphs, located at 5505 Padre Blvd. at South Padre Island, will feature Kim Doner, author and illustrator, in a book discussion, reception and signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7
Doner was born in Tulsa, OK., and is a graduate of Tulsa University with a B.S. in art. As a medical illustrator, her first jobs entailed opportunities to draw arrowheads, snake fangs, tumors and embryos – it wasn’t pretty.
Artistic growth slowed when she became a supreme domestic engineer, also known as “wife and mother,” but things picked up when, between baby naps and diapers, she began painting portraits.
She painted for galleries and collections, won awards, had a commissioned list, began graduate programs and landed a contract for her first children’s book.
She has been involved in 10 titles as the author, illustrator or both. She will be joining Paragraphs, sharing her talents as an illustrator and speaking about her books, including her work with young adult author P.C. Cast as the illustrator for the book The Fledgling Handbook 101.
