Gary Guenzel has always been an avid game fisherman with a passion for snook. The 59-year–old has surfed and traveled the world’s islands and remote fishing destinations in Costa Rica and the Panama Canal.
The rugged outdoorsman was shocked when he suddenly fell ill April 15. Guenzel said he suffered sudden black and blue bruises on his legs as he was power-washing his home and was immediately taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. Guenzel was diagnosed with spinal bleeding, a condition so rare his doctors had never seen it.
