“Shrimp is the fruit of the sea,” remarks Bubba, the simple but lovable shrimp enthusiast in the film Forrest Gump. “You can barbeque it, broil it, bake it, sauté it.” The quote goes on and on over the course of multiple scenes with the diversity of ways to prepare shrimp, and just when the viewer begins to believe that the shrimp possibilities are endless, he ends abruptly with, “That’s about it.”

If ever in doubt of Bubba’s list, one only had to attend the 21st Annual World’s Annual Shrimp Cook-off held this past Sunday in Port Isabel.
