As expected, Cameron County polling places were humming Tuesday as voters came out to cast their ballots in the Texas Primary Elections.

In the national races, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz secured the support of his home state, with 4,451 votes in Cameron County. Close behind was Donald Trump, who gained 4,286 votes. In all, 12,634 voters cast ballots in the presidential primary.

All vote tallies are unofficial until the elections have been canvassed.

On the Democratic side of the aisle, with 20,326 votes, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton cruised over Sen. Bernie Sanders, who earned 8,318.
