Port Isabel High Lady Tarpon senior Alex Martinez got the gold medal in the pole vault at the Patriot Relays track and field meet at Mission Veterans High School last Friday.

She did it by clearing 10 feet even on her best attempt and that was four inches better than McAllen’s Sara Solis, who made 9-06 and got the silver medal.  Los Fresnos’ Sara Prazelini was the bronze medalist with her vault of nine feet even.

“She’s been pretty consistent at 10 feet,” head Lady Tarpons coach Julie Breedlove said Tuesday.  “I think it’s going to take a longer pole to get her to 10-06.  Coach Stumbaugh’s done a really good job with our pole vaulters.”
