The Port Isabel Tarpons basketball team outscored the Raymondville Bearkats, 60-54, on the road Monday night in the final game of the season for both teams.
The Tarpons end the season on a three-game winning streak in district play and finish with a 5-9 league record. They won five of their last eight games.
“(Win) is what we’re always trying to do,” head P.I. coach Anthony Velarde said Tuesday. “It’s nice to string together three in a row. It shows tremendous growth by our team, and the ability to win on the road.”
Last Friday, in front of an enthusiastic Parents’ Night crowd, the Tarpons got Zapata, 65-53, in their final home contest. They took the lead for the final time on a three-pointer by Jeremy Martinez, 32-30, and led the rest of the way.
