The Port Isabel Silver Tarpon Marching Band is working on making the transition from parking lot to stadium.
The Silver Tarpon band regularly practices in the main parking lot behind the high school. It’s marked off with yard lines, just like the field at the stadium, and that’s where the similarities end.
Not only is real turf a much different surface to march on but the acoustics are vastly different as well. Scott Hartsfield elaborated for the PRESS on just what the transition from parking lot to stadium involves.
“We need to wean the kids off the metronome … change their listening responsibilities,” Hartsfield said this week.
