Things looking up for boys hoops

Special to the PRESS

It’s been a great start to the 2018-19 season for the Port Isabel Tarpons hoops squad.  They’re a perfect 8-0 after Tuesday’s 75-54 win at home over a spirited Lyford Bulldog team.  The PRESS talked with Head Coach Mike Hazelton as practice started on Monday, and he talked about how the program is coming along.

“We’re off to a good start.  This is pre-season, then you have your district season.”  Referring to reports that the Tarpons are in the “Also Receiving Votes” category of the state Class 4A polls, Hazelton said, “I’m not complaining, because we’re playing pretty well.”

Those players occupied with football before Thanksgiving week started practicing with the team this week, and were not available for action against Lyford.
