Residents and visitors to the Laguna Madre area now have a therapeutic optometrist in the area.
Dr. C. E. Zimmerman recently retired and sold his practice that had been based out of Harlingen for 15 years. He said optometry is something he loves doing, so he decided to provide the service in his new community: the Laguna Madre area.
“It’s something I love to do and the area needs an eye doctor,” Zimmerman said.
Dr. Zimmerman offers appointments 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. He said the usual eye exam lasts 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the nature of the visit.
“The best part about being here is being able to get the eye exam out of the way to enjoy some amazing seafood,” Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman said his office accepts most insurance providers and can help those needing eye exams for job requirements. He said eye exams are recommended when flashing lights, black specs, blurred vision or severe headaches are a problem for the patient.
“Headaches are not only caused by migraines, there could be a condition with your eyes,” Zimmerman said.
Patients are free to take their prescriptions wherever they please to have them filled. Zimmerman said he commonly treats eye infections, administers eye exams, prescribes contact lenses and can remove foreign bodies from eyes out of his office.
The doctor’s office is located at 1401 Highway 100 inside the Walmart in Port Isabel. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are welcome.
