Transition Board talks budget, centre

South Padre IslandThe City of South Padre Island Transition Board held a regular meeting Tuesday.

The board reviewed the budget and year to date revenues and expenditures with the convention’s director to better understand the direction of the board and Convention Centre.

A funding request from Race to the Border, a catamaran race from Galveston to the Island, for $1,500 was approved by the board. The race had been funded in the past.

The board recommended to City Council they approve $22,120 to extend Coca-Cola Beach for two days to accommodate students that will be here through the third week of the Spring Break season.

The Memorial Day City Festival was discussed by the board. They tasked board member Donahue and Lacey Ekberg to find the best solution for booking talent for the three day weekend festival.

A representative from Broaddus and Associates presented to the board plans to continue with the Convention Centre Renovation and Expansion project. She said that, by the March 27 meeting, sketches by an architect will be presented to the board as well as city council.

The board approved the media buys for the promotion of the Island in several different media outlets.
