A three person committee has been appointed to head-up a proposed July 4 holiday fireworks show in Laguna Vista.

The committee, consisting of Town Council members Wanda Reyes Rice, Nadine Smith and Letty Keplinger, will solicit contributions from area businesses to fund the purchase of the fireworks extravaganza.

At a cost ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 for a 15-30 minute presentation, the concept for the display came from a presentation by Pyro Shows of Texas, a firm from Fort Worth that specializes in municipal fireworks shows. Patriotic music and shell explosion synchronization are options that could be included.

Town officials heard at their February meeting that a customized presentation could be negotiated and rates could be lower if the demonstration was conducted on dates other than the high-demand July 4.

Jason Stanley with Pyro Shows told Council members that a customized presentation could be negotiated, and rates could be lower if the demonstration was conducted on dates other than the high-demand July 4.
