NASA engineers inspire students

Point  Isabel  Independent School  District (ISD) had the privilege of hosting a group of nine remarkable female engineers from NASA on May 5, 2023.

The event, held at the Port Isabel High School Gymnasium, aimed to empower and motivate students to pursue their dreams in the field of science and engineering.

The NASA engineers shared their personal journeys to success and imparted valuable advice to the enthusiastic group of young girls.

Throughout the engaging session, Shirley Holland-Hunt, assistant chief of the NASA Aero Science and Flight Mechanics Division NASA engineers captivated the students’ attention with their inspiring stories of perseverance and achievement. They shared the challenges they faced on their paths to becoming engineers at NASA and emphasized the importance of dedication, hard work and resilience.

The engineers also highlighted the myriad opportunities available in the scientific and engineering fields and encouraged the students to follow their passion.

Holland-Hunt commended the young girls for their enthusiasm and inquisitiveness during the interactive discussion.

She stated, “These are a good group of well-rounded girls. They really asked us good questions and got engaged in the discussion.”

Holland-Hunt’s words reinforced the exceptional potential exhibited by the students and the impact of such initiatives on their personal and professional development.
