Cameron County reports that more than 19,000 of its citizens turned out to vote in the November 7 election, a robust number for an election not tied to major public offices.

The hotly contested Position 4 race on South Padre Island drew 773 voters in a very tight race. The Special Joint Election has concluded the unofficial results below, with 100% of precincts reporting for several crucial propositions and contests.

State Proposition Results for Constitutional Amendments:

State Prop 2: “The constitutional amendment authorizing a local option exemption from ad valorem taxation by a county or municipality of all or part of the appraised value of real property used to operate a child-care facility.”

PASSED: with 12,625 votes (65.29%) FOR; 6,712 votes (34.71%) AGAINST.
State Prop 3: “prohibiting the imposition of an individual wealth or net worth tax, including a tax on the difference between the assets and liabilities of an individual or family.”
