On November 16, Governor Greg Abbott proudly announced that the City of South Padre Island has achieved the coveted Music Friendly Texas Community designation from the Texas Music Office (TMO). This recognition marks a significant step for the city in fostering music-related economic development and job creation, further contributing to Texas’ rich musical heritage.

After expressing his congratulations, Governor Abbott said, “Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state.” He highlighted the pivotal role played by Music Friendly Texas Communities in boosting local job creation and economic growth in the music industry. Last year alone, with TMO support, the Texas music industry generated over $26 billion in economic activity and provided more than 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs.

Mayor Patrick McNulty emphasized the importance of the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation for South Padre Island, stating, “It’s more than just a certification; it’s our commitment to cultivating a vibrant music scene that reflects the heart and soul of our community.”

He underlined the message this sends to the music industry, showcasing that South Padre Island is not only open for business but ready to support artists, entrepreneurs, and professionals to enrich the musical identity of the island.
