Port Isabel youths Jeremy Martinez and Josiah Garza are both 11 and share more than just a hometown. Their love for the sport of baseball has propelled them to shoot for the stars and go for the big leagues, one World Serious at a time.

“I like [baseball] a lot,” said Martinez. “It was pretty easy because you don’t have to do that much to know what you’re doing. … running is the best part.”

Garza enjoys the sport for the get-up-and-go aspects as well as his chance to be with his friends.

“It’s active. It’s fun. You have a chance to hit the ball and get grounders, and just playing with my friends,” Garza said.
