City of Port IsabelThe Port Isabel City Charter’s language will be rewritten concerning election dates, according to City Manager Edward Meza.

This decision was reached at the Tuesday City Commissioners meeting. The issue of Senate Bill 100, 82nd Regular Legislature, which changed the city’s general election date from May to November and provided a “holdover of members of the city commission to conform to the November election date,” has been on the table for a number of months. On Tuesday, the choice was made to keep the election date the same (in May) for the 2012 election year.

The change that was proposed was to edit the language of the city’s charter, altering the specifications of when elections would take place. Instead of establishing its own date, the city will, starting next year, conform to the dates that the State of Texas establishes.
