A planning meeting for the annual Church Bazaar at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church is scheduled on Thursday, July 9 at 6:15 p.m. in the Parish Hall at 705 S. Longoria in Port Isabel.
Volunteers are needed to participate during the Parish Bazaar. To register, call the parish office at (956)943-1297, or volunteers may attend the July 9 meeting.
Planning for the celebration, which is scheduled Aug. 8-9, is now underway and includes a benefit Chalupa/Loteria on Sunday, July 19, from 3 – 5 p.m. in the Parish Hall as a fundraiser for the Annual Bazaar expenses. Tickets are available or they may be obtained the door. The entire community is invited to come for fun, and enjoy traditional items offered at these events.
Bazaar tickets featuring top prizes of a $2,500 gift card and a Dallas Cowboy package, where the Cowboys play the Jets on Dec. 19, have been mailed to parishioners. Additional tickets may be purchased at the Church office. Other prizes include a 50-inch LED TV, computer, iPad Mini, camera, and various appliances and electronics.
A pageant to name the 2015 Bazaar King and Queen will be conducted in conjunction with the bazaar. Applications are available at the parish office. The age of contestants is from 6 months to 10 years of age.
The Blessing of the Fleets and Memorial Shrimpers’ Mass is scheduled on Sunday, July 12 at 12 p.m.
The Shrimpers’ Mass for shrimpers who have passed, or who have lost their lives at sea is scheduled July 12. Shrimp Boat owners and crew will be acknowledged. Shrimpers are invited to contact the church office no later than Tuesday, June 30 to provide information on planning the event.
The Dioceses of Brownsville/Catholic Pastoral Center will present a Spanish Encuentro Matrimonial Mundial program on Aug. 21-23. Also scheduled by the Diocese is a 50th Anniversary Pilgrimage Tour on Aug.1. The day-long tour aboard a chartered bus will include visits to the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle, Our Lady of Refuge, Grotto of Lourdes replica, La Lomita, Diocesan Chancery and more.
Also, during the months of July and August, Our Lady Star of the Sea is celebrating Masses at the Chapel by the Sea on South Padre Island. Masses will be in Spanish at 12 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
The OLSS offices will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day.
