On the eventful Tuesday of March 26, t09ihe Lady Tarpons, undeterred by the La Feria Lady Lions’ impressive 13-5 record, hosted a significant district matchup. The Lady Tarpons, with their unwavering spirit, were ready to face the challenge head-on.

As the game commenced, Chelsea Gonzalez, the starting pitcher for the Lady Tarpons, showcased her skills by swiftly dismissing the first two batters. However, the Lady Lions’ offense gained momentum with a base hit and a walk, placing two runners in scoring position. Fortunately, Gonzalez’s prowess shone through as she struck out the next batter, securing the third and final out.

With one out, Port Isabel’s Kimberly Barrera hit a beautiful long ball toward the centerfield fence for a standing double. Unfortunately, the La Feria pitcher struck out the next two batters as the first inning ended, with the game tied at 0-0.

After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Lions scored two runs on four hits in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.

The Lady Lions scored another run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Lady Tarpons answered right back. The Lady Tarpons scored their first run off a double by Milah Delgado. Later in the inning, Delgado came home on a throwing error by the Lady Lions, and La Feria now led 3-2.

In the top of the fifth inning, Port Isabel’s relief pitcher, Andrea Garcia, had a quick “three up, three down” inning. Port Isabel continued to build momentum as Barrera hit her second double of the night, followed by another double by Natalie Martinez. The hit brought in Barrera, and the game was now tied at 3-3 after five innings of play.

In the top of the sixth inning, La Feria broke the tie as a base hit for a double brought in a run. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the La Feria pitcher had a “three up, three down” of her own as she recorded her tenth strikeout of the night during the inning. La Feria now led 4-3.

The momentum continued to swing back towards La Feria as they added another run in the seventh inning. Unfortunately, Port Isabel could not get a base hit in the inning, and the Lady Lions won by 5-3.
