During their meeting Wednesday afternoon, the South Padre Island City Council took action to fast track street improvements throughout the City.

After hearing from Public Works Director Armando Gutierrez and Finance Director Rodrigo Gimenez, the Council considered a plan to finance a tax note in the amount of $4 million, primarily for street, sidewalk, median and related drainage improvements on Padre Boulevard. At their last meeting, the council requested presentations from staff to consider the potential issuance of the tax note for financing the expedited improvements.

David Gordon of Estrada Hinojosa, financial advisors to the City, shared that the City is in a great position to borrow with current interest rates making it an attractive time to finance any projects.
